In February 2025, Amazon updated their T&Cs. In that update, digital books became licensed based sales. Readers now risk losing their digital purchases at Amazon’s discretion as downloading beyond a Kindle app or device has been removed. As an author, it is important any reader investing their hard-earned money has outright ownership.
Towards the end of 2025 Amazon also introduced Ai into the book space. While I am neutral in its use as a ‘tool’ only, I am staunchly against its use where human works are effected.
Amazon demands exclusivity of digital eBooks when in Kindle Unlimited. Sadly, they do not provide adequate protection against pirating. Such sites harvest through this subscription method. To complicate matters, if Amazon finds an author’s book on said sites when scraping through the internet, the author can lose their Amazon account, any unpaid royalties (up to 60 days’ worth) and banned from selling on Amazon’s platform again.
It was an unacceptable risk.
